Down in Gethsemane's garden
Jesus knelt to pray
Father let this cup pass from me
Were the words He had to say.
Left his disciples a praying
Three times He went back to see
Each time He found them a sleeping
Could you not watch one hour with me.
His heart was heavy and burdened
He knew it would not be long
That He would become our blood sacrifice
And die on the cross alone.
Down in Gethsemane's garden
Jesus knelt to pray
Father let this cup pass from me
Were the words He had to say.
Upon a stormy afternoon
On the cross at Calvary
Jesus gave His life to save the lost
To set the captive free.
My Lord lay sleeping in the grip of death
Three days in a dark lonely tomb
But on the resurrection morn
Like a rose Jesus did bloom.
Down in Gethsemane's garden
Jesus knelt to pray
Father let this cup pass from me
Were the words He had to say.
