On the banks of beautiful Jordan
The sweet Lamb of God came into view
As He came gently walking
Saying, John I need to be baptized of you.
His sandaled feet so full of grace
Footsteps so humbly made
Oh, the love He had for His Father
In willingness He had obeyed.
How unworthy John must have felt
What rejoicing there must have been
To take the Lamb of God by the hand
In sweet Jordan river, Jesus gently waded in.
Jesus arose straightway from the river
What a day filled with love
When the heavens opened up
And God's spirit descended like a dove.
How loving the Father's voice must have been
As it came down from heaven's gentle breeze
"This is my beloved Son,
In whom I am well pleased."
The baptizing of all baptisms
Caressed the Earth that day
As an example for us to follow
To show our sins have been taken away.
Thank You, Holy and Divine Master
Oh, the peace it does bestow
The good conscience it does answer
As the joyful tears begin to flow.
How precious to follow in His kind footsteps
To feel we've been made whole
To feel His blessed, sweet Presence of Glory
To feel He has saved our soul.
